Seren Gwanwyn
This installation represents the beauty of decay in nature, specifically decayed Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica) heads. The poppy seed has long since symbolised deep meditative sleep, which has forever been an important aspect in human mindfulness and healing. In Greek mythology, Demeter created the poppy so she could sleep, following the loss of her daughter, Persephone. In ‘A Druid’s Handbook’, Jon G. Hughes reports that the Welsh poppy is known in the Welsh tradition as llysiau cwsg (the herb of sleep).
In this installation, I have used copper wire, copper mesh and the element of fire to create the decaying effect of the poppy seeds. My own addition to this installation is to spiral and twist the ends of the seed pods, using the spiral as an added symbol of repetitive and cyclic patterns of nature. The immersive installation will act as a meditative space for the audience to calmly reflect on their lives, feelings and emotions, and the natural flow of nature.

Delicacy in Decay
Mae’r gosodiad hwn yn cynrychioli harddwch pydredd byd natur, yn benodol pennau pabi Cymreig sydd wedi pydru (Meconopsis cambrica). Mae hedyn y pabi wedi bod yn symbol o gwsg dwfn myfyriol ers tro, sydd wedi bod yn agwedd bwysig ar ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar ac iachâd dynol ers tro. Ym mytholeg Groeg, creodd Demeter y pabi er mwyn iddi allu cysgu, ar ôl colli ei merch, Persephone. Yn ‘A Druid’s Handbook’, mae Jon G. Hughes yn adrodd bod y pabi Cymreig yn cael ei adnabod yn y traddodiad Cymreig fel llysiau cwsg. yn Yn y gosodiad hwn, rwyf wedi defnyddio gwifren gopr, rhwyll gopr a'r elfen o dân i greu effaith pydru hadau'r pabi. Fy ychwanegiad fy hun at y gosodiad hwn yw troelli a throelli pennau’r codennau hadau, gan ddefnyddio’r troell fel symbol ychwanegol o batrymau ailadroddus a chylchol natur. Bydd y gosodiad trochi yn gweithredu fel gofod myfyriol i’r gynulleidfa fyfyrio’n dawel ar eu bywydau, eu teimladau a’u hemosiynau, a llif naturiol byd natur.
