Adventures In Nature
Adventures in Nature is a project which aims to support the local biodiversity in the Welshpool area. I created and ran 12 workshops in total for the 'Fire' element of the project, 6 open access and 6 in Welshpool primary school.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and local lockdowns, some workshops were recorded and moved online.
Due to lockdowns, I focused the online workshops on the theme of using nature for wellbeing and mindfulness and connecting people back to nature through activities such as tree ID and forest bathing. The participants would complete the workbooks and activities and then join the online art workshop. There were a total of 3 online workshops on the themes:
Tree ID
Forest Bathing/Bird ID
Nature and Art
In order to run the online workshops correctly I created workbooks that were sent out to participants. These were easy step-by-step guides and materials lists to complete before the workshop began. The workbooks were created both in Welsh and English, here are some samples.
School Workshops
After the initial running of the summer workshops at a local nature reserve in Welshpool, I repeated some sessions for Welshpool Primary. We held 3 sessions over 3 weeks which included tree ID and bird ID, nature craft sessions such as nature mobiles, mandalas and leaf printing, den building and fire building. During these sessions, the students would hold group discussions regarding such things as what wood is good to burn, how to safely make a fire without disturbing local wildlife, the importance of planting trees and their uses, and much more!
